Wisdom from the Youth #5
The Climate Change Dialogues initiated by Team Bricks4Change propelled us to many conversations. Wisdom from the youth #5 is part of a series of posts on our interactions with young people for the dialogue on Climate Change (now against the backdrop of the COVID pandemic). These were each in their own way eye-opening. The focus was on looking at the positives coming out of this pandemic and how the youth felt about the bigger challenge that faces humanity – Climate Change. While we were familiar with the Lego® Serious Play® Methodology, there were several firsts:
– A new design thanks to #Bricks4Change core team
– A new medium – mostly virtual
– New circumstances – given a global lockdown and pandemic
– A non-corporate subject and set-up
The Climate Change Dialogues : Wisdom from the youth
Here follows our dialogues in a rapid-fire sequence with pictures. And what we gained out of them: wisdom from the youth!
This is the FIFTH conversation using Lego Serious Play(LSP) and across the globe using a virtual medium.
Subsequently we’ve had several meaningful conversations with youngsters from ages 10 to 27. This continues. Keep watching this space for more.

Connecting with family & friends using technology
I find it amazing how seamlessly the next generation connects with technology. They just don’t seem to notice any difference in conversing face-to-face or via zoom! I guess this is a short-term phase. As the days of lockdown increase, we can sense the digital fatigue set in.
This session was a challenge for me as I had to put aside my role as a father and focus on being the LSP facilitator! It did take us a couple of models to cast aside the roles of father and daughter and open up. Thanks to this lockdown, Daniisha says she is happy as gets a lot more TV time! (Ahem!! Focus…focus… said the facilitator). She believes that this period has helped each one of us become more independent and do our own work
A Wonderful world
Even though we are caged, the earth is smiling. The birds and animals can roam freely without fear. It was wonderful to see this positivity in the young lady (the father beamed within!). The model was thoughtfully designed.
Daniisha wants to play an active role in keeping our beaches clean, especially after our local festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi where thousands of idols are immersed in the sea water.
The Lego Serious Play Session: Our individual takes
Daniisha says, “This was a fun and interactive session where we learnt about climate change and that we need nature and nature doesn’t need us“
Personally, this session was a revelation for me. The bricks helped me see my daughter in a different light. I feel we were successful in putting aside our real life roles and just enjoying this time with the bricks and talking about a serious challenge which faces us.
